African American men face unique health challenges that can impact their quality of life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), African American men are at a higher risk for a number of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. These conditions can be exacerbated by stress, which is a common experience for many African American men. In fact, the American Psychological Association reports that African American men are more likely than any other group to report experiences of discrimination, which can contribute to chronic stress and its negative health effects.
